Black Ops

Your Supreme Warlord has dispatched one of their most trusted lieutenants to perform a series of clandestine operations against their enemies. Completion of these missions will give the forces under your command a tactical advantage in the battles yet to come.

As these small forces are meant to represent stealthy covert teams, the following restrictions are placed on army selection;

  • Players build an army of 400 points.
  • There is no FoC restrictions other than your army must contain a HQ that cannot be your Supreme Warlord or a Special Character. This character is automatically your warlord for this event, however, they do not get to roll on the warlord Trait tables.
  • The force may contain a single unit from one of your selected campaign allies if you wish. But must contain at least one non-character unit from your primary codex.
  • No Vehicles (anything with an Armour Value), no Fortifications, no Artillery and no Monstrous Creatures (of any kind) may be taken.

The event consists of three missions. These games are designed to be quick and deadly so plan accordingly.

All Missions are played on a 3×4 or 4×4 table depending on availability. Terrain will be set up by the campaign organizers ahead of time and should not be moved by players.

Players roll off to select table side as normal.

Operation Points

Some missions use Operation Points which are similar to Victory Points with the exception that units are worth a single Operation Point for each full or part thereof 100 points of value. So a 135 point unit is worth 2 Operation Points in the game and a 80pt unit is worth 1 Operation Point.

Missions

The day will be broken down into three rounds. While this is not a tournament, match ups will be determined based on your previous round results. Winners will play other winners with some fudging to make sure team mates don’t play each other where possible.

The winner of each game will receive a special Strategy Card that are one use only and can be used in regular campaign games.

Note that there are two identical Round 3 missions (A and B). The only difference, other than the name, is which Strategy Card is rewarded for a win.

Round One: Recon

Tasked with discovering the strengths and composition of the forces at your enemy’s disposal. Your Black Ops team penetrated deep into hostile territory and completed their objective. However, as they make their way back to debrief they come across an enemy force attempting to do the same thing. The two teams engage in a quick skirmish, knowing that only the victor will return to home base in time to deliver the valuable intelligence.

Deployment: Use The Vanguard Strike Map for deployment. However, reduce the space between deployment zones to 8” on each side of the centre line to represent the unexpected nature of this encounter. This means that the two forces will set up within 16” of each other.

Victory Conditions: At the end of the game the player that scored the most Operation Points wins the game. If players have the same number of Operation Points, the game is a draw.

Primary Objective: At the end of the game, each player receives Operation Points for each enemy unit that has been completely destroyed. Units that are falling back at the end of the game are worth half their Operational Value (rounding down, minimum 1).

Secondary Objective: Linebreaker, First Blood (each is worth a single Operation Point)

Mission Special Rules: Night Fighting, Reserves

Round Two: Assassinate

Now that you have discovered the existence of the other black ops teams out there. It’s time to cut off the head. Your lieutenant and his team have worked their way carefully into a position to strike, however, they didn’t realise the enemy has the same plan!

Deployment: Use The Hammer and Anvil Map for deployment.

Primary Objective: Slay the enemy warlord! If the enemy warlord is dead at the end of the game then you score 2 Operation Points. If the enemy warlord is broken or has fled off the table it is worth 1 Operation Point.

Secondary Objective: Linebreaker, First Blood (each is worth a single Operation Point)

Mission Special Rules: Night Fighting

Round Three (A): Sabotage

Discovering that the enemy has obtained an asset in close proximity to one of your own has forced your team’s to spring into action. It is vital that you destroy the enemy’s asset before they destroy yours. But rigging the explosives will take time and you must secure the area in order to do so.

Deployment: Use The Dawn of War Map for deployment. However, reduce the space between deployment zones to 8” on each side of the centre line to represent the unexpected nature of this encounter. This means that the two forces will set up within 16” of each other.

Each Player must place a single Objective completely within their Deployment Zone and otherwise follow the standard rules for Objective Marker placement.

Victory Conditions: At the end of the game the player that scored the most Operation Points wins the game. If players have the same number of Operation Points, the game is a draw.

Primary Objective: At the end of the game if you control the Objective in your opponent’s Deployment Zone you score 3 Operation Points. If you control the Objective in your own Deployment Zone you score an additional 1 Operation Point. For the purpose of this mission, all friendly non-character units count as Scoring.

Secondary Objective: Slay The Warlord, First Blood, Linebreaker

Mission Special Rules: Night Fighting
